If you are a pet owner you probably want to give your dog the best attention possible. This means feeding them the most nutritious food including the most expensive canned food available.

In my personal experience even the best canned food available can sometimes be harmful for your dogs and give them health problems like upset stomach or diarrhea. This is the time to start cooking homemade dog food for them to help them balance their diet.

The recipe I made today is super easy to make and contains safe ingredients that will help with upset stomach. A word of advice is always to take your dog to the vet first in order to understand the problem causing your dog’s upset stomach.

But, regardless the cause for your dog’s troubles this food will be safe or them. So let’s look at the ingredients we used to make this meal:

Baked chicken for dogs

Chicken is the safest protein food you can give your dog. It is easy for their stomach and digestion. Chicken is also packed with protein that nourishes and gives strength to both humans and animals. To be sure you are giving your dogs the best food available, it is recommended to get farm raised chickens that are not mass produced and full of hormones.

Baked rice for dogs

Rice is one of those safe foods for dogs where you can’t really go wrong. But if you are preparing this meal to soothe your dogs digestive tract only use plain white rice. The other types of rice, like brown, are not bad for dogs and they carry more nutrients, but they are also more difficult to digest.

Baked pumpkin for dogs

Pumpkin is actually the key ingredient in this recipe. It is considered a super food for dogs because it carries two important features:

First of all, pumpkin is full of fiber that will clear out your dog’s digestive tract. This is especially helpful if your dog has an upset belly or diarrhea. Expect to see improved health and mood the second they you feed him this diet. The first day the body gets used to the extra fiber and the second day the digestive tract starts to balance itself.

Second of all, pumpkin is chock full of nutrients: Vitamins A and C, Iron, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Antioxidants, etc. Pumpkin is good for you dogs eyes, it boosts their immune system, moisturizes their skin and coat and controls parasites naturally.

  • 2 lb (1 kg) chicken breasts
  • 2 cups plain white rice
  • 2 lb (7 cups) pumpkin
  • 6 cups of water (hot)

Step 1.

Preheat oven to 200°C/400°F

Step 2.

Spread the rice and chopped pumpkin inside a 10’’ x 15’’ baking dish (use larger if necessary). Add chicken pieces on top then add water.

Step 3.

Cover with foil and place it inside the preheated oven. Bake for 45 minutes. Remove the foil then continue baking or another 15 minutes. The entire liquid doesn’t have to be absorbed.

Step 4.

Remove the baking dish form the oven and let it cool for 20 minutes before serving it to your dog. 1 cup of this meal is enough for a single serving for a 20 lb dog, and you can also use our dog food calculator to get an accurate serving amount.

Step 5.

Place the leftovers in single serving freezer bags and freeze for later use. Use this meal within 3 months of freezing. To defrost the food, take 2 servings the night before and place them in the fridge. If they are not fully thawed the next day it is not a problem.

Bon appétit!
