Baked salmon with potatoes for dogs (and humans): homemade dog food recipe

I wanted to create a recipe that’s dog friendly but also incredibly tasty to humans.
I am proud to present to you this baked salmon homemade dog food recipe!

You can prepare it very easy and share it with your dog. The only thing you will need to add to your meal at the very end is garlic-butter sauce.

The best part about thishomemade dog food recipe is using one pot for everything. This means almost zero mess, less dishes to wash, and more time for play and cuddles.

How to make baked salmon with potatoes for dogs and humans

I decided to bake the potatoes first because they need more time to get ready. The salmon is usually cooked in 10 minutes but the potatoes need at least 25 minutes of baking. Depending on the size of potatoes you might need to extend the cooking time to 30 minutes.

– After the potatoes are baked you will need to scoop them to the side to make room for the salmon (or other fish you decide to bake)

– Freeze this meal for up to 2 months. If you wish to consume it fresh do not leave it in the fridge for more than 2-3 days.

Substitutes

Potatoes are generally safe for dogs but also contain starch which should be given to dogs in moderation. Choose sweet potatoes instead for your next meal.

Salmon Feel free to substitute the salmon for any kind of fish that’s safe for dogs. This means it should be a deboned fillet of tuna, whitefish, cod or whiting.

Veggies – are good for dogs because they provide fiber to their digestive tract. Besides asparagus and carrots, feel free to try cauliflower, Brussels sprouts or broccoli for this recipe.

  • 1 lb (500g) potatoes (peeled and halved)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil or coconut oil
  • 3-5 skinless salmon fillets
  • 2 tbsp curly parsley
  • 2 bunches asparagus (12 spears, ends removed)
  • 4 large carrots diced
  • 1 cup peas

# Step 1:

Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
Wash the potatoes, carrots and asparagus. Peel and dice the potatoes, dice the carrots, and remove the woody ends of the asparagus.

#Step 2:

Line a baking pan with a baking sheet and toss the potatoes, carrots and asparagus with the olive or coconut oil. No need to add any spices. Spread the veggies in a single layer and bake for 15 minutes to soften them up.

#Step 3:

Remove the pan from the oven and carefully push the veggies to one side of the pan. Arrange the salmon fillets in a single layer. Spread the curly parsley on top of everything.

#Step 4:

Return the pan inside the oven and keep on baking for 10-15 minutes. The meal is ready when the potatoes start getting a golden hue, and the fish is opaque inside and out.

#Step 5:

Remove the pan from the oven and let it rest for 20 minutes before feeding your dog. One cup of veggies and ½ fillet is enough for a single meal of a 20 lb dog.
