Chicken Casserole – Homemade Dog Food With Chicken
So this homemade dog food recipe is easy to prepare all you have to do is follow a few simple steps and you will create the meal out of your dogs’ dreams. I changed a few things to make this casserole dog friendly. For example a standard chicken and rice casserole dish is made by searing the chicken. This is not recommended for dogs because their bodies (and organs) can’t clean the trans-fat like the human body can. I also removed the spices, garlic and onion because they are bad for dogs.
Can I freeze a chicken and rice casserole for dogs?
This is a freezer friendly meal so you can make a larger batch. The chicken casserole for dogs will keep in the freezer for 3 months. Also, always make sure you label the freezer bag. If you’re like me you cook often for your dogs and you might end up with lots of freezer goods.
What is inside the chicken casserole for dogs?
Obviously chicken is the main ingredient in this dog friendly casserole, but there’s also rice, a variety of veggies like carrots, broccoli, sweet potato and some coconut oil.
Substitutes for Chicken and Rice Casserole for Dogs
There are certain ingredients you can change up or substitute in this meal depending on your needs:
• Chicken can be substituted for fish but only if it’s completely deboned. Also beef chucks would go good with this recipe.
• Sweet potato can be substituted for pumpkin. They both have similar density and nutritious values.
• In regards to veggies you can also add peas, peppers, zucchini, and cauliflower to the mix.
• Coconut oil is optional simply because not everyone has it in the pantry. Get it of you can, or substitute with a drizzle of olive oil.
List of Ingredients
- 2 lb (900g) chicken thighs and drumsticks (fresh, bone in)
- 1 ½ cups rice (Japanese, basmati, jasmin or long grain)
- 4 carrots (shredded)
- 2 sweet potatoes (medium, shredded)
- 1 broccoli (medium, shredded)
- 2 tbsp coconut oil (optional)
- 3 cups chicken broth
- 1 cup of water
Step by Step Instructions
Step 1):
Pre-heat the oven to 350°F (180°C) or gas mark 5
Step 2):
Wash the rice until the water that comes out of it is transparent. Place it in a bowl and fill the bowl with water. Set aside.
Step 3):
Wash the vegetables then shred them all together in a medium-sized bowl. Drain the rice and mix it with the sheredded veggies.
Step 4):
Place the rice and veggies mix inside a 10’’x15’’ baking dish and place the coconut oil in the middle. Arrange the chicken pieces on top. Add the chicken broth and water. Cover with foil then bake for 40 minutes.
Step 5):
Take the pan out of the oven, remove the foil then put it back inside to bake for additional 15 minutes or until most of the liquid is absorbed.
Step 6):
Remove the pan from the oven and let rest for 15 minutes. Then remove the chicken, pluck the meat, chop it up and mix it up with the rice inside the pan. You are now ready to serve this to your dog.
Step 7):
If you have a lot of leftovers freeze them in individual plastic bags or cups and use it as necessary. Simply defrost in the fridge the night before and warm it up the next day.
Homemade Dog Food
The benefits of homemade dog food are becoming more recognized as pet owners seek healthier and more natural options for their furry companions. Preparing your own dog food allows you to have complete control over what goes into your dog’s diet, ensuring they receive the right amounts of protein, fiber, and essential vitamins and minerals. Homemade meals can be tailored to your dog’s specific dietary needs and preferences, and can also avoid unhealthy additives, preservatives, or fillers often found in commercial dog food.
Ground Chicken and Chicken Breasts
One popular ingredient in many homemade dog food recipes is ground chicken. This lean meat is a rich source of essential amino acids and protein which is crucial for your dog’s muscle development and energy levels. Ingredients such as chicken breasts can be cooked and shredded or ground, then mixed with other nutritious ingredients like rice, vegetables, and supplements to make a balanced meal. Chicken and rice recipes are particularly beneficial for dogs with sensitive stomachs, as they are easily digestible and can help soothe upset gastrointestinal tracts.
Further, adding vegetables like sweet potatoes to your dog food recipe can provide your pet with essential nutrients without the need for artificial supplements. Sweet potatoes are an excellent source of dietary fiber, vitamin C, and beta carotene. Not only do they enhance the flavor of the homemade dog food, but they also contribute to your dog’s overall wellbeing. By experimenting with different homemade dog food recipes, you can discover a variety of meals your pet will love, like a chicken dog food recipe. Remember, the goal is to nourish your pet in the best possible way with high-quality, homemade food.
Benefits of Natural Dog Food
The incorporation of natural dog food into your pet’s diet can yield significant health benefits, particularly concerning oral health, which is an often-overlooked facet of a dog’s overall wellbeing. Utilizing ingredients such as brown rice, ground chicken, and chicken breasts in a chicken and rice recipe can contribute to healthier teeth and gums in dogs. Both brown rice and chicken are easy to chew and digest, reducing the chances of dental issues such as plaque buildup and gum disease. Moreover, the natural enzymes present in the chicken can potentially contribute to a cleaner oral environment.
Food allergies are quite common in dogs and can lead to numerous health issues, including oral problems. An allergy to certain ingredients in the dog’s food can result in swollen gums, mouth ulcers, and other dental issues. Shifting to a natural diet can reduce the chances of such allergies, as you have control over the ingredients. Instead of relying on processed kibbles, you can prepare a meal with ground chicken, chicken breasts, and brown rice, which are less likely to trigger allergies. This homemade food can also be a delight for your dog, especially if your dog loves the taste of chicken and rice.
Introducing new food items like brown rice and chicken in a wet food form can help alleviate digestive issues in dogs, which in turn contributes to oral health. Digestive issues can sometimes lead to poor oral health, especially if the dog’s stomach is constantly upset, leading to excessive vomiting or acid reflux. These conditions can damage the teeth and gums over time. Thus, a natural diet, carefully designed to suit your dog’s digestive needs, can also contribute to healthier teeth and gums. Remember, treating your dogs with human food can sometimes lead to digestive issues, so it’s crucial to prepare a separate, nutritionally balanced meal for them.
Conclusion
In conclusion, preparing a homemade chicken casserole for your dog not only offers a tasty meal that your dog will love, but it also presents numerous health benefits. The ingredients like ground chicken, chicken breasts, and brown rice in a chicken and rice recipe create a natural, nutritious dog food that can alleviate many common food allergies.
By controlling what goes into your dog’s food, you can ensure they are getting a balanced diet without the filler ingredients often found in commercial options. The introduction of new food items, particularly in a wet food form, can be beneficial for a dog’s stomach, helping to ease any digestive issues.
Remember, while your pet may be tempted by human food, it’s essential to provide nutritionally balanced meals designed explicitly for dogs.
Therefore, as you venture into preparing homemade food for your dogs, you are providing the best care possible for their health and happiness.
